  • Ways To Stop A Chronic Migraine Headache

    Suffering from migraines can be debilitating. There are migraine headache treatments that can help stop migraine symptoms and prevent future attacks. Many medications are available to treat migraine headaches. The drugs act as migraine remedies and also prevent migraine headaches. The ways to stop chronic migraine headaches fall into two broad categories.

    1. Preventive medications - These type of drugs are taken regularly or frequently to reduce migraine headaches. The goal is to reduce the amount of migraine headaches.

    2. Pain relieving medications - This type of migraine treatment is called acute treatment and these medications are taken during migraine headache attacks and are designed to stop migraine symptoms.

    Pain relieving medicines that help reduce migraine symptoms are:

    1. Pain relievers - Some medicines like aspirin or other ibuprofen pills can relieve a mild migraine headache. A combination of acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine can also ease moderate migraine pain. They aren't effective alone for severe migraines.

    2. Triptans - The other powerful drugs for migraine symptoms prevention is triptans. These medications also are used in treating migraine headaches. They effectively relieve pain and migraine symptoms.

    These medicines include sumatriptan, rizatriptan, and almotriptan.

    3. Ergots - The other way of stopping a chronic migraine headache is ergots. They are effective when the pain lasts for more than 48 hours. It's better to take ergots when the migraine symptoms start.

    4. Anti-nausea medicine - These medications are often combined with other medicines. They are metoclopramide or prochlorperazine.

    5. The other ways of stopping chronic migraine headaches are opioids and glucocorticoids.

    Other chronic migraine remedies include preventive drugs like cardiovascular drugs and antidepressants.
